Without photos or xrays, there is not way for me to say what treatment needs to be done. If there is still tooth structure above the gums, it may be salvageable. If it broke at or below the gum line, the tooth probably needs to be removed and replaced with an implant or bridge.

It is unlikely that decay under the crown of a root canaled tooth would cause the symptom you described. You should have the root canal result evaluated by an Endodontist to determine if all is well with the root canal procedure. Crack tooth syndrome is also a possibility.
