When can I start wearing makeup on my nose after rhinoplasty and alarplasty?

My surgeon said I’ll have to wait 2 months after to start applying makeup on the incision site because it can cause scarring if I’ve had applied it earlier than that. I have a wedding to attend 8 days after my surgery and I was wondering if I’ll be able to put makeup on at 8 days post op. Thank you.

Thank you for asking. Each plastic surgeon has his or her own protocol with procedures and each patient has her own specific situation. Follow your doctor’s advice for your case.Many patients can apply makeup after stitches are removed but talk with your surgeon about your needs. Best wishes!

Thank you for your question.  We advise all patients that they are able to wear makeup after the splint is off and stitches are out, which occurs 1 week after surgery.  Hope this helps.

Hello,Thanks for your question. I've never heard that before, but I defer to your doc.In my practice, my patients put makeup on routinely at day 8 after surgery unless there is a slow healing incision. We use topical anti-scarring gel, let it dry, and then have them apply makeup. I haven't had any poor scarring related to makeup.Good luck,Dr. Shah

The best thing is always to adhere to the instructions of your surgeon. I allow my patients to start wearing light make-up after 1 week as long as it can be removed easily without exerting much force or pressure. You need to be aware that your will likely have quite some swelling on day 8 when you attend the wedding but please do not do anything unless your surgeon allows you to.Best wishes and good luck,Thomas Walker, MD, FACS

Hello and thank you for your question. Every Doctor has their own protocol for post-operative care and instructions. We typically allow our patients to apply makeup to the surgical area after the incision is completely healed; typically 10 - 14 days post-op. Best of luck with your continued healing!

In our practice, we perform closed rhinoplasty with the incisions placed on the inside of the nose. Patients are able apply makeup at any time after the surgery. After a rhinoplasty procedure, anticipate a cast applied across the nose for one week, and visible bruising and swelling for two weeks. You will not be ready for a wedding at eight days after a rhinoplasty procedure.
