I’d like to know a doctor’s opinion on dermaplaning for the face. It sounds like it might make your skin and pores look beautiful but so far I’ve only heard of this being available in med-spas which I won’t go to. Will it cause thicker facial hair? Thanks in advance for your advice and time.
Answer: Dermaplaning Dermaplaning is an easy procedure where dead skin is removed from the epidermis, as well as vellus hair. Skin appears smoother, lessening the appearance of acne scarring, any sun damage or hyperpigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. Dermaplaning may be done as a stand alone treatment or to enhance another facial treatment, such as a brightening peel. Dermaplaning will NOT make hair grow back any differently than it was before.

Answer: Will dermaplaning cause hair to grow back coarser or darker? Great question, and one I have heard many times. The reason dermaplaining is performed in a medical setting, like a med spa, is because of the use of the dermal blade. This superficial procedure is a form of mechanically exfoliating the skin by gently scraping away the top layer with a dermal blade. Dermaplaning is also popular because it shaves the fine, peachfuz hair. This procedures helps improve the texture of our skin and it is also used to prep the skin for facials and chemical peels. Dermaplaning will not cause the hair to grow back coarser or darker. It is not effecting the hair follicle.

Answer: Dermaplaning - an excellent, safe procedure Dermaplaning is an excellent, no downtime safe procedure removing vellus hair and exfoliating dead skin. There is no truth to a thickening of hair after treatments. Results are outstanding and patients are extremely pleased with results. Hair growth nor thickness is affected by the procedure. Best of Health to you! James Mirabile, M.D.

Answer: Dermaplaning Dermaplaning is very beneficial for the skin. It removes dead skin cells as well as vellus hair (peach fuzz). This allows products to penetrate better and make-up to lay smoother on the face. It is not true that the hair grows back thicker or darker, it will grow back the same way. There are doctor offices that offer this with their aesthetician.

Answer: Dermaplaning Thanks for your question. Dermaplaning can be done by an aesthetician under the supervision of some sort of medical director, but not all medical directors are dermatologists. If you are concerned about the effectiveness and best results, see a dermatologist and they will steer you towards a reputable place, either in their office, or a spa they refer patients to. It will not make your hair grow back coarser or thicker. If that were the case, most people would opt for doing it on their scalp as they get older and grow new, fantastic hair (which is not possible). Best of luck and see an expert!
