I had my last rhinoplasty 9 months ago, which was my fourth surgery. I originally had a straight nose and wanted to achieve a “Barbie nose” — upturned, with an elegant arch. The pictures taken on the operating table looked perfect and exactly what I wanted. However, over time, my nose started to look worse — swollen, crooked, and even more problematic than before the surgery. Two days ago, I had a consultation with my surgeon. He told me that my body couldn’t handle the new shape and formed scar tissue. Because of this, he said I’d need another surgery to remove the scar tissue and make the nose even more upturned so that it would resemble a Barbie nose once healed. To me, this explanation doesn’t make much sense. I don’t understand why my skin hasn’t settled. I can’t even feel any bone — the structure feels very small and seems to mold back to the desired shape when I massage it. Will this eventually heal on its own, or do I truly need yet another surgery to achieve the Barbie nose I want?
