Are smooth threads effective in minimizing the appearance of acne scars?

I am wondering if any of your patients have had improvement on their acne scars with smooth threads? Are they effective? An if so, how often can the smooth threads be placed under the scars,

Hello, thank you for your question. To achieve the best results in treating acne scars, I recommend combining PDO mono threads with scar subcision and PRF injections. Typically, 3-4 treatments are required with 2-month intervals between each treatment.

I gave up using threads years ago, since threads carry a not insignificant risk for the development of adverse reactions, such as infections, skin dimpling, spitting out of the sutures, etc.  And, despite the hype, the results often do not last much longer than the use of temporary fillers. On the other hand, some simple and relatively inexpensive procedures, such as subcision for elevating and smoothing boxcar/rolling scars and TCA CROSS for ice pick scars and dilated pores have each established a several decades long history for both safety and efficacy in all skin types. I have personally been performing subcisions since 1995 and TCA CROSS for about twenty-three years with gratifying results. You would be wise to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Hope this helps.

It is very difficult to address question like yours without in person evaluation or proper photos. Treatment of accne scars is directed towards making them smaller, shallower; dermabrasion or abrasive lasers are used for that purpose with best result. Treads are waist of money. Good luck.
