A sliding genioplasty, not using implants, requires screws to hold the chin bone in its new position? I am just wondering, because I don’t think I want implants or to have any permanent materials in my face, and screws aren’t any exception.

A sliding genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon in a hospital setting under general anesthesia with an overnight stay at the hospital, since it is quite invasive.   The Mandible bone is cut and then plated and screwed together for  holding  it in its new position.  This is usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment.  Placement of a chin implant is done under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure which takes approximately 30 minutes.  No screws are required.  Chin implant is totally reversible and the implant can be removed at any time after the surgery, if needed.   For many examples of chin implants, please see video below

A sliding genioplasty has to use some form of fixation to hold it into its advanced position. The most common and secure method is a small titanium plate and screws. The other option is resorbable screws although they are not quite as stable.
