Hi @sandrad12! BHAs exfoliate your skin surface by decreasing the adhesions of dead skin cells (corneocytes), causing them to loosen and detach. Since BHAs are oil-soluble, they penetrate below the skin surface as well, exfoliating inside the pores. This allows oil to flow out more freely, preventing the build-up of dead skin and sebum that leads to clogged pores. Salicylic Acid is the most common BHA. I love recommending Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA liquid exfoliant or The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution to my patients. I hope this was helpful :)
BHA toners work by deep cleaning the pores in our skin thus, helping the appearance of enlaged pores. Pore size is determined by your genes, diet, sebum production etc, but using products with BHA can certainly help their appearance. KMRN
