Can I lighten my skin after removing a mole?

Hi everyone.  I’m posting this risking feeling overly dumb or getting a bit more worried, but I am a bit uncertain of what to think at the moment.  Long story short – I’d had a brown spot (mole, freckle, whatever you want to call it) above my lip since I was about 9 years old.  I’ve always hated it, so I finally began seeing a dermo who recommended BBL treatments to get rid of it.  After about five of those, at $50 each, it was the same size, but only darker – which I was told was a good sign, yet very frustrating.  This went on for nearly a year.I was getting a bit irritated about having to take off work etc to I took matters into my own hands and simply cut out the dark spot.  That was about a month ago.  From what I can tell the mole is gone and it's healed but there is darker skin there now after the initial scab healed.  It’s just a small spot of dark skin maybe about a third of the size of your pinky finger nail.  While most say they don’t notice, I obviously do, and I was wondering – is this to be expected as part of the healing process?  Should I be patient or is it very possible I may need to do something about this if I want to indeed rid myself of this darker spot?  Might skin lighteners work?  Or should I be scheduling another apt with the dermo and tell her what I did?    =-/ (see the dark spot in profile picture)
