Hello everyone, I had BA about 6 years ago and I have had a capsular contraction from the begging I assume but I couldn't realize that until recently. So I went to the Dr and he put me on Singulair for now. My question is that is Singulair is going to work for me after years of having capsular contracture? thanks
Answer: Using Singulair for Capsular Contracture
It sounds like you have chronic capsular contracture which will unlikely be improved with Singulair. I have used Singulair to reverse early capsular contracture with moderate success but not for chronic capsular contracture. You also need to be aware of the side effects of Singulair which may be significant. Consider your options carefully and discuss this with your plastic surgeon to make sure that if you are on Singulair, monitor for side effects.
Best Wishes,
Stewart Wang, MD FACS, Wang Plastic Surgery

CONTACT NOW Answer: Singulair for CC Singulair is used as a FDA off label usage to treat Capsular Contracture and in some cases of recurrence of capsular contracture in a preventative fashion. This does not apply to you for the following reason: Although capsular contractures following breast augmentation can occur just about anytime, most women start having symptoms around three months after their breast implant surgery. This is because it takes some time for a capsule to form and then to scar down (contracture). Therefore it is probably too early at 3 weeks to be concerned about this problem. Your signs and symptoms are most likely from muscle spasm although other factors could also cause this. Your plastic surgeon should be able to sort this our in short order.

Answer: Capsular Contracture and Singulair
Capsular contracture is a very difficult entity to predict. Singulair may hasten the progression of the contracture and is not unreasonable to use. Grade III and Grade IV capsular contractures I usually treat surgically. Kenneth Hughes, MD breast implants Los Angeles, CA

Answer: Singulair
Singulair and accolate are both medicines which have been shown to be helpful in patients with capsular contracture (hardening of the breast). It is worth a try with singulair to see whether your condition improves because in many cases, you can avoid additional surgery. If after a trial of singulair you still have hardening, surgery can correct it.
