Prolonged swelling of one eye post surgery.

Question

I had a upper eyelid surgery done in June 2016, 6 months post surgery now. Initially it took some time for swelling to go off, and I noticed a stitch that it's being left inside and went to a local surgeon to have it removed. The swelling went down very soon. But the spot that the the stitch was removed started to have pimple that keeps coming back after removal. And also swelling of my eyelid that cannot go off, what should I do?

Hi,
It is difficult to tell from the photographs, but it appears you may have either a retained suture or an inclusion cyst that is persistent along the scarily. If you have associated eyelid swelling or asymmetry, I would return to your surgeon to discuss the possibilities and treatments. This should be improved with either removal of the retained suture or cyst or redundant tissue. Hope this helps.

It's a bit difficult to tell from your pictures as they're quite dark, but it looks like you may have had a retained suture from the skin closure, or an internal absorbable suture work its' way out. The persistent swelling that you are having at that site may be due to either another internal suture, or an inflammatory reaction to the suture. As long as this is going on, your eyelid may remain swollen. I would recommend that you see your surgeon as he or she is the only person that knows what was actually done at the time of your surgery. If you are unable to see your surgeon, consider asking for the operative report and seeing a local physician so that you have all the information about your procedure.
