Is IPL still effective if the treatments are spread out several months apart?

I'm 34, Caucasian with freckling and the early stages of sun spots. I'm using a full refining of fantastic skincare but I want more correction than its providing. I live in Mexico and only come home to the states three times per year. I'd like to start having IPL to even and lighten my skin where the hyper pigmentation is. Is it ineffective to get real results with treatments spaced so far apart while I'm on my trips home? No, legitimate IPL where I live in Mexico is not available. Thanks for your advice!
