Can saline breast implants be deflated when pregnant?

Question

I have been wanted to have my saline implants removed due to discomfort and just found out I am pregnant. Can I still have them deflated by a PS when pregnant and remove the shells once I deliver? What are the potential risks of deflation when pregnant if any?

Hello @BananaJam12 thank you for your question. Surgery should not be performed during pregnancy if it is not urgently needed. If the implants were removed, the lining of the implants would remain within the body and the breast would lose its shape, in the event that they were removed. It is preferable to wait until the breast implants can be removed safely. At this time you should avoid the use of anesthetics if it is not necessary or any element that may affect the baby. it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, it is possible to remove implants under local anesthesia. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

Yes you can have saline implants deflated while you are pregnant.  This can be done in the office with no downtime.  You can then return to have the shells removed when you have had the baby and/or are finished breastfeeding.

While you are pregnant, you saline implants can be deflated with a needle, but you will want to removed the empty implants once you have delivered and are finished breast feeding. Otherwise, just wait.  Deflation carries a very low risks, but the empty bags might be somewhat uncomfortable as the corners can poke.
