To make an accurate assessment regarding someone’s candidacy for surgery we generally need a complete set of quality pictures. Take a look at how plastic surgeons take before and after pictures to get an idea. Try using the timer on your camera or have someone else take the pictures for you. Regarding your abdomen, there are four tissue variables that determine what the abdomen looks like. The choice of procedures should be based on having a clear understanding of what the underlying problem is. The four tissue variables that determine what the abdomen looks like are as follows. 1) . abdominal skin laxative typically due to previous pregnancies or weight loss.2) excess subcutaneous fat.3) muscle separation from previous pregnancies called diastasis recti.4) excess visceral or intra-abdominal fat. In your case, it appears you have all four of them. Visceral fat is a major component to the bulging of your abdomen. Without weight loss, your candidacy, for the procedure is going to be inherently limited. Do you have a significant skin laxity on your back with multiple skin folds. Further weight loss will create greater skin laxity. To get the best outcome would require substantial weight loss, followed by an extended or wraparound tummy tuck. Liposuction will not give you a quality outcome, because subcutaneous fat is only a small part of the problem. You are not particularly great candidate for Liposuction, based on the pictures and information included. If you move forward with a full tummy tuck without first losing weight, then you’re most likely still have a bulging abdomen. Do you improve your appearance your first step should be successful weight loss. Without weight loss, both Liposuction and a tummy tuck will have limited impact. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
