Breast augmentation is often performed to replace volume lost from weight loss, breast-feeding, or age or to increase the size of the breast for aesthetic reasons. The cost is variable and is based on what is done, the type of implant, and geographic variability. Quoted fees may or may not include facility, anesthesia, and implant costs. A detailed examination will help delineate the best surgical option and provide you a custom quote for your situation. Consultation with a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery would be the next best step.
Breast augmentation is one of the most commonlyperformed cosmetic surgery procedures.Prices for this procedure vary widely and depend upon severalvariables. It’s important to make surethat your fee quote includes the surgeon’s fee, facility fee, anesthesiacharge, implant cost and pre and post-op care. Each of these component may vary widely depending upon the surgeonspractice.Generally, surgeons who operate in dedicated outpatient cosmetic surgery facilities areable to offer lower facility fees than those who operate in hospital basedpractices. The surgeon’s fee can vary aswell depending upon regional differences and local levels of competition.Anesthesia fees can vary and this may berelated to the use of a nurse anesthetist verses a physiciananesthesiologist. Finally, there may bewide variations in implant charges depending upon the type of implantchosen. For instance, Sientra implantsare more expensive than other types of implants. When allof the variables are considered fees in the Midwestern United States varybetween $6000 and $8000 when Sientra implants are used. It’s important to remember that althoughprice is an important component of your decision, it’s not the onlyconsideration.Make sure you have acomfort level with the surgeon’s experience, reputation and their ability tocommunicate with you.
Cost is an important factor, but not the most important. Implant procedures may range from $5000-10000, depending what is required for a successful procedure. Consider looking for a board certified plastic surgeon that specializes in breast surgery. If you a procedure at a "cheaper" place, but cannot function for a month; is this cheaper than a reasonably priced procedure at a specialist that can get you back to work and working out within 48 hours?
Plastic surgeons with their own accredited surgical facilities, hospitals, and outpatient surgical centers will all charge different amounts for breast implants. Likewise, all 3 USA breast implant manufacturers charge different prices for their products, even in the same city, based on volume purchased, other same-company products purchased, etc. Price gouging may occur if it is possible, but the bottom line is that implant cost is like grocery costs--the supplier charges one price, the distributor a bit more, and individual stores different prices at the cash register depending on whether the retailer is Costco, WalMart, Target, or Tiffanie's High-end Grocers! The same is true for implants, and some surgeons may have higher breast implant volumes and therefore have a lower cost, which they may or may not pass on to their patients. The same goes for hospitals, which almost always charge more because elective cosmetic surgery is a huge profit center, compared to Medicare, for example. In general, smooth, round cohesive silicone gel implants cost more than smooth, round saline implants from the same company. Textured implants typically cost a bit more in saline, and a lot more in silicone gel. The textured, teardrop-shaped, form-stable, high-strength cohesive silicone gel implants are the highest cost of all, so be sure you and your surgeon are convinced of the supposed superiority of a given implant type before you commit to the higher cost just because it "seems" better, or has the most marketing. We itemize the exact costs in our surgical quotes, so this information is always available to our patients. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen
The price for Sientra implants is approximately the same as for Allergan or Mentor silicone implants. It differs from surgeon to surgeon and if the implant is shaped or not. The reason it differs between surgeons has a lot to do with how many they use/buy at one time and if they buy them or a surgery center does. There are many advantages to using Sientra Implants - see below link
Hi,We charge the same for Sientra implants as we did for the similar implants from the other two companies. It is my understanding from many of my friends who use Sientra, that they also charge the same for Sientra. So that is a good deal if you decide on Sientra. I agree with Dr. Grzeskiewicz [note our spellings are close but not cigar!] that shopping by price alone can steer you wrong.Be sure to see only a board certifiedplastic surgeon (by ABPS - The American Board of Plastic Surgery) who is amember of ASAPS (The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) and or amember of ASPS (The American Society of Plastic Surgeons). Also, ask if theyhave an established, high volume breast augmentation practice, performingseveral hundred breast augmentations each year. Ask to see their before andafter photos if you didn’t see any on their website. If they areexperienced, they should have several 100 breast implant patients for you toview. I would also recommend that your doctor offer you the chance totalk to past patients who would be happy to discuss their experience withyou. You need to feel comfortable, so make sure the environment is safeas in an accredited surgery center. Also, ask a prospective surgeon if he orshe has ever published journal articles in professional peer-reviewed journals, which they can provide you.If you are seeing a "Sientra" plastic surgeonhe/she is already board certified because Sientra only sells to BC plastic surgeons (by ABPS - The American Boardof Plastic Surgery) who are members of ASAPS (The American Societyfor Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) and or a member of ASPS (The American Society ofPlastic Surgeons). Also Sientra is the only implant company who has a warrantee if you develop acapsule after receiving their textured implants. They have a specialprocess which makes the texture. This implant shellis unavailable elsewhere. All the best, "Dr. Joe"
The cost of implants can start from around $1000 for saline implants to 1800 or more for Sientra round silicone gel implants - up to about $2100 for the shaped anatomic high strength gel implants. This does not include the surgeon's fee and the costs of the operating room and anesthesia, which can add an additional 5000 to 6000 to the overall cost of your procedure.
Hello and thank you for the question. I am not sure if you are asking for just the cost of the implants or cost for the entire breast enlargement procedure. Cost of implants will vary amongst doctors so you should ask each one you see. They can range from about $1300 a pair to over $2000 depending on the type and shape you choose.
The price a plastic surgeon pays for implants is about the same for Sientra, Natrelle and Mentor breast implants, The cost to the patient will include the cost of the implants, the cost for OR, anesthesia and surgeons fees. No one wants to pay more than they need to pay for anything. But be aware that very low prices probably mean that a physician is cutting corners somewhere. Surgery is not a place to cut corners. The most expensive surgeon may or may not provide the most beautiful results with the best safety record, but the lowest price will almost always mean a higher possibility of an outcome that is not what a patient hopes for.
Thanks for the question. When it comes to costs of surgery, there may be many “variables” involved. The specific surgeon's credentials/experience level (or lack thereof), the specific geographic area you are looking at, the different operations available, the location of the procedure (quality of surgery facility), type/quality of anesthesia provider, type of breast implants… are some of the potential variables involved. You will find some average costs of surgery on this website and on individual plastic surgeons' websites as well. I hope this, and the attached link, helps. Best wishes.
