Is Bactroban ointment use for crusting inside the nose?

Thanks for your question. Sorry to hear about the crusting. Bactroban ointment is safe to use in your nostrils and works well against the most common bacteria that can cause a problem. However, if you're having crusting you should get checked out by your doctor to make sure you don't have a problem. For now, lots of saline spray and the bactroban should work fine.

Dear suseso23, I would suggest using the bactroban as prescribed and the saline spray until you can see your surgeon. An evaluation needs too be done to determine if you have an infection or just dry mucosa. After this diagnosis then proper treatment may be advised. Bactroban is generally used if a infection is suspected.  It is useful against staph infections and even MSRA.  You should have your surgeon evaluate you again to determine if an infection is the problem vs drying of the mucosa.  Good luck.  Donald R. Nunn MD  Atlanta Plastic Surgeon
