Looking at vaser lipo on upper/lower stomach, waist, back and arms. I am 42. I do not smoke. I have Raynauds Syndrom (not sure if that makes a difference) but no other health concerns.
Answer: Skin Discoloration and VASER Great question. VASER, on its own, should not create any discoloration to your skin. VASER uses ultrasound guided energy to emulsify (or liquify) the fat. The steady and constant movement of the probes in a fanning motion minimize the risk of thermal or burn injury to the overlying skin. In reviewing your body habitus, you are an ideal candidate for VASER assisted liposculpting- and could undergo abdominal etching should you desire. In my practice, I would recommend the addition of Renuvion J plasma or BodyTite to also help reduce skin laxity, and to help tighten the skin. Hope this helps. -Dr. Satey

Answer: Concerns regarding Liposuction I think skin discoloration should be pretty low on the list of realistic things to be worried about. Personally I think patients number one concern should be not getting botched. I have a list of recommendations to minimize the chance of this happening. I also wouldn’t worry about the form of Liposuction VASER versus any other format. Getting an accurate an honest assessment from an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon is key in knowing ahead of time what kind of results you should expect. The best way to ensure good results and minimizing the chance of disfigurement is to be in the hands of the most talented and experienced board-certified plastic surgeon who particularly has expertise in Liposuction beyond what the normal plastic surgeon will claim To do this I suggest having exclusively in person consultations starting with a minimum of five consultations. During consultations ask the provider to show all their before and after pictures for the specific procedure in question. In your case Liposuction of the full torso and arms. An experienced plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you a minimum of 20 before and after pictures of both the torso and of the arms. This means they should be able to whip up 40 before and after pictures for these two areas. A very experienced plastic surgeon should have several hundred before and after pictures for this procedure of these two areas. The goal is not to see the best results that surgeon has managed to get throughout their career. It’s to get an idea of what the average results look like. Asking to see all the surgeons before and after pictures also give us confirmation of how many of these procedures the surgeon has actually performed. I recommend reading all the reviews on the select plastic surgeon on various physician review websites. Organic unmanipulated reviews tend to fall fairly equally among different physician review websites. A clinic that has an excessive number of Reviews on only one website is a bit suspect in my opinion for Review manipulation. I wouldn’t worry about how many reviews a provider has unless it’s less than 10. I would however not consider any provider that has more than three justified negative reviews consistently on various review websites. When I look at the review profiles of the plastic surgeons I have the most respect for they all have the same characteristic of not having negative reviews posted about them. We all have patients who aren’t all always content. Every plastic surgeon has had complications. The ability to manage these patients correctly to avoid negative reviews is what separates the truly great from average. The two single variables that matter for this procedure are the individual candidacy of the patient together with the skill and experience of the surgeon. The equipment is irrelevant, pretty much everything else is irrelevant. Long-term skin discoloration’s happen very rarely from Liposuction. It can happen when patients are extremely bruised which typically only happens from poor surgical technique. It can also happen the very rarely from dermal physical injuries which is also related to poor surgical technique. I suggest having a few in person consultations with providers in your area. This procedure will irreversibly change your body for the rest of your life. I suggest Following the above recommendations for finding the best provider in your area. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
