My dermatologist recommended Sculptra for the treatment of dark under eye circles. However, the Sculptra website says that the product is not intended for use around the eyes. In the medical community, is this an acceptable treatment for dark under eye circles or should I be concerned with the recommendation? Thanks.

Answer: Sculptra is NOT for Dark Circles Hi Helmut. The Sculptra website is not the last word on where the product is commonly used because the company is only allowed to market FDA approved (facial) sites. With that said, Sculptra is not the proper product for under the eyes. Sculptra is commonly injected very deep in the skin, even directly on the bone. Because the dark circles under the eyes are above an area WITHOUT any bone, it's not a good choice of fillers. Look for a practitioner that uses Restylane or Juevederm and uses a technique where they inject "under the muscle". You will have a much better chance of getting a good outcome if you look for these two things. Good luck.See pictures of patients that have had this procedure at the link below.

Answer: Sculptra for Dark Under Eye Circles Sculptra is a wonderful gradual facial volumizer that is relatively problem free as long as treatment guidelines are followed and aggressive massage is employed after the procedure. If you have volume deficiency in your cheeks, it can be beneficial, but will not be effective for pigmentation under the eyes. However, sometimes patients describe diminished cheek volume as "dark circles" at which point adding volume can be aesthtically helpful.
