Breast pain 1 year after surgery. Should I be worried?

When placing an implant, or any foreign object in your body, a capsule (scar tissue) forms around it. Sometimes this capsule gets harder. When it happens around the breast implant, it can change the shape and feel of the breast: it looks higher, feels tighter, etc. Corrective surgery might be necessary based on the severity of your capsular contracture. Different approaches can be taken.

Capsular contracture is a tightening of the scar tissue that forms around your implant. This happens when your body reacts to the foreign object, your implant. About 10% of the patients get this. Based on your description, it sounds as though you have developed capsular contracture, or tightening of the scar tissue around your left breast. As the scar tightens around the implant, it will become firmer and rounder and appear higher than the other side. I would recommend seeing your plastic surgeon for an evaluation of your implants and further work-up as needed.

Hello, thank you for your question. Pain around the surgical sight after 1 year since the surgery is not normal. You will need to go back to your plastic surgeon to perform a physical examination and go from there.

You most likely have a Grade 3 capsular contracture, which causes bulging at the top and can be associated with discomfort. You should see your doctor and have him evaluate you.

You may be developing a capsule. I would suggest meeting with your plastic surgeon and being examined.

Thanks for your question. Based upon the information given, it seems you may have a capsular contracture. Schedule a visit with your PS for an exam and assessment. Capsular contractures are usually released with surgery.
