Scar creams for breast reduction?

Dear shizznizz786,Thank you for your question and congratulations on your breast reduction surgery. For all of my breast reduction patients, I have them purchase "Silagen" which is a form of silicone sheeting. I have them start it at 6 weeks out from surgery as long as everything is closed. They are instructed to wear it at night while they are sleeping. It has proven great results and patients are very happy with it. I hope this was helpful and best of luck to you!

Your surgeon should be able to give you some recommendations on which he or she prefers. Silicone sheeting is a good choice along with scar recovery gel. Best wishes!

hypertrophic, inflamed, and thickened. In our office, we use a
combination approach that includes pulsed dye laser, Plato's Scar gel
used twice daily, fractional laser, and Kenalog IIT to reduce the scar.
Topical therapies are great first-line therapy.

In general, scarring is a product of genetics. Some people are good scar formers, and others are poorer scar formers. I always minimize the scars to minimize the likelihood of poor scars. There is no one best therapy for scars. Silicone sheets, Mederma, and Bicorneum are reasonable and popular options. Thanks for the question, if you want to spend a bit more money check out the embrace scar reduction system, I have used this with great success in patients with a tendency to scar poorly!

Hello, and thank you for your question.  In my practice, I recommend that my patients use a silicone based scar cream, such as Biocornium, twice a day for the first 6 months to a year.  Discuss this with your plastic surgeon to see what he/she recommends.  Hope this helps!

My favorite scar cream that I use for all of my patients is called BioCorneum.  It has silicone, moisturizers, and sunblock.  Scar Away is a good less expensive alternative.  Make sure that whatever you choose has silicone.  Vitamin E has never been shown to be beneficial.  Best of luck.

Hi and thank you so much for your question! I like to counsel my patients when it is time for scar treatment to use anything that has silicone as one of its main ingredients. This could be cream, gel, or treatment strips with silicone. I'm not sure what is available in your location, but we use & recommend Siltape & Mepitac.  All the best

Many scar treatment modalities are now over the counter. The question is: which one?  Hypertrophic scars warrant a different treatment than healing scars.  I prefer Dermend for healing purposes. Hypertrophic wouls warrant the silicone containing creams, tapes or sheeting.
