Soft bump on the side of the nose 1.5 years after rhinoplasty

Question

Hello. I have noticed this bump on the side of my nose. I haven’t had any injury-that’s why I am surprised. When I press down it a liitle bit it is soft, flattens out, so I am assuming it may be a swollen cartiladge

Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, that area is at the bony cartilaginous junction. It may not improve. If you end up getting a revision, I don’t recommend having rasping performed under local anesthesia. This will usually make the nose look better for 1-2 months and then it will actually get much worse long-term afterwards, with contour irregularities developing. This is because the skin of the dorsum is extremely thin. A much better approach is to do a formal revision with rasping and placement of a dorsal onlay fascial graft to help smooth the dorsum. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

Rarely, we see bone reaction after rhinoplasty surgery. This can easily be corrected by your surgeon under local anesthesia at the clinic. He will gently shave the bone that has a reaction and this treatment will solve the problem. Best of luck to you.

Based on the single photo that you posted, you appear to have a pleasing oblique nasal appearance. If the cartilage in that area is a drop too high, a permanent non-surgical nose job utilizing Silikon-1000 may be considered for camouflaging it. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph
