Can Botox help with nostril flare when smiling?

Question

I’m really happy with my nose at rest. When I smile, it flares a lot, making me look super different. It is also not very photogenic unfortunately. People tell me I look pretty in real life, then they see my pictures where I’m smiling and think I’m a different person. How do I go about finding someone who can inject Botox for nasal flare? Is this a common procedure most ppl would know or would I need a specialist? In Sarasota area.

Thank you for your question. It is possible that a conservative amount of Botox can reduce nostril flare when smiling by relaxing the associated muscle activity. You may also benefit from liquid rhinoplasty which uses hyaluronic acid dermal formulas to bring your nose into balance with the rest of your facial features.

Thank you for your question. Nasal flare when smiling is normal, but if it bothers you, it will definitely improve with Botox treatment. It’s not a common area we treat. However, it is very effective to stop the nostrils from flaring if applied by an experienced plastic surgeon. Best wishes.

Botox has been used for years for this purpose. I have personally been doing so for well over two decades. It is not a common location for Botox treatment, like the glabella or crow's feet regions, and so you would be wise to consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatologist with extensive experience in using Botox for treating all areas besides the common frown lines, worry lines and crow's feet areas. Photos of the change in your smile would aid in determining if Botox would help your condition.

Botox is a 'trial and error' learning curve in many areas and for certain conditions.  Injecting small amounts into the muscles causing the nasal flaring may reduce the effect.  More units may be added after 2 weeks time if the reduction in movement is inadequate.

Hi there! Great question. Botox can help to reduce flare though it isn't always successful. The muscles involved in flaring the nostrils can be tough to pinpoint. If the result is achieved, sometimes people with complain of nasal obstruction / blockage because the muscles are no longer "active" and able to dilate open the nasal passageways. I would seek consultation with a physician if possible who is familiar with nasal anatomy to learn more of how it may help. Hope this is useful!
