what are the variables that determine the cost of bbl? And how much should I anticipate to spend for the whole procedure including the anesthesia and post op care?

Cost varies
by geographic location, surgeon expertise, OR time, anesthesia, length of
procedure etc.  I would recommend that you go to The American Society of
Plastic Surgery website and look for a list of board certified plastic surgeons
in your area.  You can call their offices in advance and ask for quotes
prior to scheduling consultations.

The best way
to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

plastic surgery.

The costs of BBL varies based on location of the practice, the 
physician, the patient's anatomy, and the number of areas that are 
needed for liposuction in order to harvest the fat to be injected into 
the buttocks. I'm not sure what part of California you are in, but the cost in the LA area usually start around $8,000 and depends on the patient and the number of areas need for liposuction to harvest the fat for transfer to the buttocks. I wouldn't choose a surgeon on cost alone, but look at 
their results and choose one you feel comfortable with. Additionally, 
most plastic surgery practices offer payment plans through financing 
companies such as Care Credit and Alpheon. I recommend consulting 
several surgeons to help find the one that is right for you. Good luck!

Cost factors vary significantly for a number of good reasons: Prices vary greatly because the surgery itself encompasses a wide range of techniques that can be performed to different extents. My recommendation is to first find the most qualified surgeons where you want the surgery performed that are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery you trust, then compare prices between them. See the below link on suggestions on how to find the most qualified plastic surgeon for your procedure. General Factors that influence the price of plastic surgery include:

1. Location - Will it be performed in a hospital with an overnight stay, an independent out- patient facility or a doctor’s office? Geographical location also has a significant influence. RealSelf has average charges for most areas of the USA.

2. Type of Anesthesia - local, IV sedation or General Anesthesia? Will a board certified anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, or an RN be used?
     
       3. Experience and training of your surgeon. The best and longest trained is most often a plastic surgeon board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery
    
       4. Length and Complexity of Surgery - how difficult will your surgery be and how long it will take, etc. Will other complementary procedures also be also performed during the same surgery?

In our area, the cost for a BBL by a board certified plastic surgeon can range from $7000 to $9000 depending on how many areas need to be liposuctioned. This includes all fees except pain medicationd and antibiotics.  Also this includes one garment and if you need more, they are $150.   The preop blood work is also not included and it is about $50.  If you need a medical clearance, those costs may be more if you dont have health insurance.

Cosmetic surgery costs are generally broken down into the surgeons fee, facility fee and anesthesiologist fee.All postoperative visits should be included and not be charged for.It's important to discuss what the surgeon's policy is for revision work.Most plastic surgeons do not charge for revisions though some will charge the patient for a facility or anesthesia fee if revisions are needed.Play practice is focused exclusively on body contouring using various forms of liposuction and fat transfer.We do not use General Anastasia though we have that available should someone choose to be put to sleep.There are many advantages to avoiding general anesthesia for this procedure.Cost is one of them but not the primary reason to avoid using General Anastasia.When liposuction or liposuction with fat transfer is done using a local Anastasia and mild sedation it can be done in an office-based setting.Avoiding a formal operating room such as a hospital or surgery center significantly decreases the cost.An operating room with an anesthesiologis may cost at least $1000 per hour or more.this could amount to $2500 to $4000 depending on how much work is done.Some surgeons on their own operating rooms and have the ability to lower costs because of it.In our practice the facility fee is only a few hundred dollars keeping the cost down substantially.While price is no guarantee of quality work the most talented plastic surgeons rarely give substantial discounts.As one of my professors used to say "don't look for bargains when shopping for parachutes or cosmetic surgery".because there are quite a few variables the prices will vary as well.Total cost could be between $5000-$12,000.There are rogue operations charging as little as $3500 an high-end clinics charging well over $15,000.The average price seems to be around $6500.in our practice we typically set the price based on the number of areas treated with liposuction and have an ad on fee for fat transfer such as a Brazilian.In other words someone who has six areas of liposuction in conjunction with the Brazilian will pay a little bit more than someone who has four areas treated with liposuction for the same Brazilian.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
