Unfortunately, your liposuction was done to aggressively and also unevenly. Was this done using VASER? Your belly button stock was left a little long. Shortening your belly button stock so it has more of a pulled in effect. Should be a pretty straightforward and easy revision. Of all the bellybutton issues and you can have this one is actually one of the few that is easy to fix, and can substantially improve the outcome. It’s important that the surgeon does not make the skin incision on your abdomen larger, but keep it as small as possible and then remove the excess length of the belly button and re-suture it. I would think most plastic surgeons could do this in their office using local anesthesia. Personally, I prefer to keep the belly button stalk short so it pulls in on the abdominal skin, creating a more natural mid abdomen contour. Being left with no fat it’s going to be hard to get a pulled in looking belly button. The success of shortening, the belly button stalk depends a lot and how deep your belly button is. If you can take a Q-tip and push it in quite far, then there’s lots of skin they can be taken off the belly button stalk. Did your surgeon show you a lot of before and after pictures of Liposuction results before you scheduled surgery? Did those results look like you do? Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
