The skin all over my body has been prematurely aged as a result of a particular medication I took many years ago. It is particularly evident on the backs of my hands. Can anything be done to improve the skin on the backs of my hands, like maybe some kind of resurfacing? If I pinch the skin the skin remains looking pinched for a while afterwards. I'm also concerned that the med has somehow impacted the skin's collagen. Current theories include gene dysregulation. I'm 51, male
Answer: Resurfacing lasers such as Resurfx and Melapeels can help tighten the skin for a more rejuvenating look. Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads can seriously improve surface sun damage and UV related pigmentation. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Rejuvenating Prematurely Aged Hands: Effective Treatments and Solutions Premature aging of the skin, particularly on the hands, can be a challenging issue, but there are several treatments that may help improve the appearance and texture of your skin: Topical Treatments: Using retinoids or creams containing hyaluronic acid and peptides can help improve skin texture and stimulate collagen production over time. Chemical Peels: These can help remove the outer layers of dead skin, promoting the growth of new, healthier skin and improving texture and tone. Laser Resurfacing: Treatments like fractional laser therapy can stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity and appearance. Microneedling: This procedure involves creating tiny punctures in the skin to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and firmness. Dermal Fillers: Hyaluronic acid-based fillers can help restore volume and smooth out the skin on the backs of the hands. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: This involves injecting components of your own blood to stimulate collagen production and improve skin quality. Consultation with a Dermatologist: It's essential to consult with a dermatologist to assess your skin condition and explore the most appropriate treatment options based on your specific needs and medical history. A personalized treatment plan can be developed to address your concerns and improve the appearance of your hands.

Answer: Back of hands I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing concerns with the skin on the back of your hands. Fortunately, there are several effective treatments to restore volume, improve texture, and stimulate collagen production—because while wrinkles tell great stories, they don’t need to be on your hands. Biostimulators like hyperdilute Radiesse and Sculptra are excellent for collagen stimulation, helping to rejuvenate commonly overlooked areas like the hands and neck. Chemical peels can aid in skin resurfacing, enhancing tone and texture, while PRP/PRF (Platelet-Rich Plasma/Fibrin) utilizes your body’s natural growth factors to promote regeneration. In addition to in-office treatments, a solid at-home skincare routine can make a big difference. Daily sunscreen is essential to prevent UV-induced aging, and incorporating retinol can help improve skin texture over time. I highly recommend scheduling a consultation with an experienced aesthetic provider for a personalized evaluation and treatment plan.

Answer: Hand rejuvenation Yes it is possible to rejuvenate the appearance of your hands. Consider Renuva to improve volume loss. This is different from typical fillers because while you get the immediate volume that HA fillers provide, over time the product is replaced by your body's own fat which means longer lasting results. You can also consider topical treatments to improve overall skin texture.

Answer: Microneedling may be considered for improving hand skin texture. Other than something like microneedling, I cannot emphasize the importance of proper hydration with a hypoallergenic and high quality hand lotion. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph
