Abdominal etching is just as you suspect. The fat tubes feel just like fat and can distort with weight gain and loss. Liposculpture is really what you want but be sure to get it done under local tumescent with the micro cannulas for best results so your doc can stand you up and turn you etc... to fine tune everything nicely during the procedure. Vaser assisted liposuction utilizes ultrasound to emulsify or melt felt prior to removal. It is also used to etch or define the muscles and normal anatomy to enhance the results. I use a specialized technique to remove the deeper fat areas and sculpt the superficial fat, so that one can achieve the goal of having not only a flatter stomach but also a more defined and curvaceous body if wanted. I can use this technique on the arms as well.

I also use the fat removed to graft into the pecs for men or breasts for women as well as into the arms and other areas to further enhance muscle definition.

The best candidates for the procedure already have a good muscular base.

Abdominal etching can definitely cause more problems than it solves.  If you gain weight it will look worse than you had done nothing.  At best they are fatty pads to do not look or feel like abs.

Abdominal itching is truly an art that has become more popular with the new techniques and technology provided by the VASER or Smart Lipo MPX.  For that reason I carried both of these machines in my office.  If the patient already has excellent abdominal musculature secondary to there workout routine the thin layer of fat added to each compartment of the rectus abdominis muscles will feel very natural.  If the patient remains more than 10-15 pounds then this may change the appearance of the abdominal itching.
Any surgeon who has just completed a surgical training in plastic surgery can perform liposuction which in many cases is simply reducing volume of fat in an anatomic area.  It takes, however, an artist with extreme experience to be able to perform liposculpture AKA 360 liposuction or body sculpting.  It is important to seek not only board certified plastic surgeon but perhaps one that he has special qualifications required by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).

This can look great, if you are the right candidate, and if you take proper care of yourself.  And certainly, if you gain weight, then your results may look very bad and fake.  The best is to make sure you will maintain your weight, exercise and a balanced diet.In my patients with high definition, or 3D, we have incredible results.
