Hair transplant is not about how many grafts you need but understanding your goals and expectations. 2000 grafts may be enough for some but may not be enough for you if your expectations are different. The results also depend on your hair color to skin color contrast, hair texture, hair style, etc.The overall success of a hair transplant surgery depends on: (1) artistic and technical skill of your doctor and team (2) communication between you and your doctor to establish a realistic goal.If you are considering surgery it would be best to discuss your options with a doctor.  You need to explain to your doctor your goals and expectations.  The doctor needs to examine you to give you a better assessment.

Dr. Rassman has accurately answered your question re the number of transplants necessary to lower your hairline. I suggest you also consider the Irregular Hairline Incision Technique that we described many years ago to lower the hairline in patients like you. With this technique the hairline is lowered en bloc, achieving better density immediately.

Hairline lowering hair transplants take between 1300-2000 grafts on average and that depends upon your hair character (fine vs coarse). My wife had very fine hair and ended up with 2200 grafts to get her the perfect hairline. See below
