It's best to begin by consulting with a surgeon in-person to discuss your options. During your initial examination, your #chin will be evaluated along with the neck and jawline. A weak #chin implies a lack of chin support for the skin along the neck line. In younger individuals a chin implant alone is usually all that is needed to improve the appearance of the neck. Subsequently, it will also improve the overall #balance of the face and can create the illusion of a smaller nose. As a stand-alone procedure, chin augmentation can be performed in the office under local #anesthesia. For individuals with signs of #aging in the neck, a chin implant added to one of the recommended procedures above, will provide optimal results. Liposuction under the chin is also another option your doctor can discuss. If you are not a candidate for chin or neck rejuvenation at the time of your #consultation, your board certified plastic surgeon can recommend alternatives to address your concern. However, there may be additional options to improve the appearance of your concern to improve the overall balance of your face. Such can be best evaluated in-person. Consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in #face, #neck and #chin procedures is important to ensure you are receiving the best advice, care, and surgical experience possible.
The treatment that select will depend on several factors. An excessive overbite can produce a recessive chin. If you want your bite corrected, then you will require orthodontics and orthognathic surgery and/or including a genioplasty. If you are not concerned about your bite, then you are a candidate for a advancement genioplasty or chin implant. For extremely recessive chins, the genioplasty will allow for a greater advancement. I hope this was helpful.
Without in-person evaluation it is impossible to give you good advice. If your bite deformity is significant that require orthognathic surgery (jaws alignment) that would be solution for most of your cosmetic concerns, Possibly sliding genioplasty may be added to jaw surgery? However, if your bite deformity is mild and can be corrected with orthodontic treatment than correction of the lower jaw and chin can be achieved with chin and possibly jaw implants. Evaluation by an orthodontics, oral-maxillofacial surgeon and board certified plastic surgeon would help. Good luck.
Dear cigarettenfabrik,it is hard to tell without an examination. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon and oral surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
Without an exam your question cannot be answered. You will need to see an Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon to see if othognathic surgery, genioplasty or using an implant is best for your specific case. It should be noted that patients with severely weak jaws or abnormally functioning jaws may be better treated with other facial surgery (orthognathic surgery), although a chin augmentation may be an option at a later time. These patients should seek the advice of a plastic surgeon to determine which course is right for them. Here is some information to help you make this decision: Candidates for Chin Augmentation - Patients whose chin profiles are weak but have normally functioning jaws are candidates for Chin Augmentation. Many of these candidates have used injectable fillers in the past to strengthen the protrusion of their chins, but are looking for a permanent solution. If you are one of these patients, then you are a likely candidate for chin augmentation#weakchin #chinimplant
When there's a significant issue with the way the teeth fit together and there's a recessive chin profile, consider a sliding genioplasty. This procedure is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay. For cosmetic improvement of the lower chin area, consider placement of the chin implant which is performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. For many examples of chin implants, please see the link and the video below
Good Day. Thank you for your question, and photograph.Your photographs does show a weak chin (retrognathia).Best treatment: chin implant. When patients refer to an overbite, there are two possibilities:True overbite-where the upper (maxillary) teeth vertical (superior-inferior) overlap the lower teeth or incisors (mandible).Overjet- where the maxillary incisor teeth stick out further (horizontally) than the mandibular teeth.Braces or orthognathic (jaw) surgery is indicate to correct these issues. Often patients with overbite have a deficient chin and both can be corrected by pulling the lower jaw forward (saggital split mandibular osteotomy). I have performed many of these procedures. Some patients still need the chin augmented despite this procedure, which can be accomplished with either a silastic implant or sliding genioplasty.Best of luck with your choices.
I believe you are a great candidate for a chin implant.your overbite can certainly make your chin look slightly more weak but with an implant inserted properly proportionate to your needs it can also improve the appearance of the slight overbite.as well. I recommend seeing a certified and experienced surgeon who can help you come to a decision and reach your goals. Best of luck.
Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years. From the photo, your chin is very weak. Developmentally a weak chin is secondary to a lack of forward projection of the chin bone. Your occlusion, or how the upper and lower teeth come together should be evaluated by an Orthodontist. When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face. Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck. Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision. I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone). I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone. In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery. Hope this helps.
