I intend to return to work within two days of having my chin implant surgery. I understand that the swelling will not subside until around a week. However, is there anything physically stopping me from returning to work? Also, is erosion a theoretical risk with a chin implant or a real concern? My surgeon is not going to use screws to put the chin implant in place. However, he is a highly experienced doctor. He also intends for me to use a head bandage. Will the headband dislodge the implant?
Answer: Can I return to work within two days after having a chin implant? Yes it is possible to return to work at two days as long as no heavy lifting or exercise is involved. In our practice, chin implants are placed through a small incision underneath the chin under local anesthesia. We do not use any bandages or screw fixation. The amount of bone remodeling is irrelevant and has never been an issue in 25 years. Anticipate 10 days of visible bruising and swelling in the chin area with full healing taking proximate 3 to 4 months. For more information in many before-and-after examples of chin implants, please see the video and the link below

Answer: Can I return to work within two days after having a chin implant? Very doubtful any surgeon would permit return to work after ONLY 2 days postop. Best you make sure the operative surgeon approved that plan....

Answer: Can I return to work within two days after having a chin implant? Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years. When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face. Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck. Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision. I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone). I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone. Even though a chin implant surgery, when placed through a small curved incision under the chin under local, is a minimally invasive procedure...it's best to avoid any strenuous activity for 3-4 weeks to prevent bleeding around the implant. Depending on what type of work you do, you may be able to return to work in a couple of days but we typically have reinforced tape over the chin for the first 4-5 days. Hope this helps.
