Are my veneers too thick? My upper lip now seems to protrude more. (Photos)

Question

About two years ago, I had the surface of sixteen of my front teeth (eight lower and eight upper) shaved down and covered with veneers. My upper lip now seems to protrude more than it did before. Do my veneers look too thick? Do my teeth need to be shaved down further?

From the looks of things, your veneers do appear a little bulky, but I would have to see your original pics to determine if this was something that was pre-existing, or something that was created by the placement of the veneers. I hope this helps.Dr. Sarah Thompson

Hello and thank you for your question.  Keep in mind, it will take some time to get used to the look of your veneers, but it’s difficult to determine thickness from your photos. I recommend following up with your Dentist if you have concerns or consult with a Prosthodontist, who can discuss with you the different types of veneers to give you the best long-term results. A Prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has advanced training in restoring teeth and can create a customized treatment using the latest techniques in dental veneers.

It's tough to tell from these photos if the veneers are a factor in the protruding lip. These photos seem to show your lip above the veneers. How does your lip look and feel when your lips are at rest, i.e. not smiling? Were the teeth prepared at all or were the veneers simply bonded to the unaltered front of the teeth?
