QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Do you have to do upper and lower veneers with the same dentist?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

You should definitely be able to match the lowers to the uppers. Good quality photos with shade guides and even a call to your previous dentist to get the type of porcelain and shades used will also help.

Would veneers and a new dental implant crown all match? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Yes you should be able to match the veneers to a new crown over the implant. With today's materials there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get a really nice match between the veneers and the crown. You may need a new abutment which goes into the implant and under the crown on #10 however a good dentist and a quality lab should have little trouble matching everything esp if it's all done together.

Gummy smile: Laser gum contouring or surgical crown lengthening?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

There are several options for you depending on how high up you want the gum line raised. Basically a soft tissue laser will easily be able to raise the gum tissue higher and reduce some of the gummy smile and allow the teeth to look longer. The issue is there is a limit to how high up the gums can be raised and this is due to the anatomy  of your teeth and gums. You may want to start with that being that it is the most conservative treatment and may not require any tooth treatment other that the laser. If more tissue is needed to be removed after the laser treatment has healed then a periodontist with surgical crown lengthening would be needed and most likely veneers after. Often times digital imaging can be done to give you an idea what each treatment would look like.

I have little holes on my side front teeth where my gums meet and my front tooth is chipped. Can they be fixed? (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

These holes are cavities. They are from decay. Yes they can be fixed and you will need to see a dentist as soon as you can and have an exam with xrays to determine the extent of the decay and the best way to fix them. They may need just fillings or more extensive treatment but that's not possible to tell with out a complete exam. I encourage you not to delay as this decay is progressing.

I'm scared of receding gums. Is it bad or am I overreacting? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Looking at the photo I don't think you have much to be worried about. There may be some slight recession there but it doesn't appear significant. When you have your teeth cleaned they will be able to take a closer look. I the meantime make sure you're using a soft toothbrush and brush gently.

I have temporary veneers but hate my teeth. Can you advise me on what to do? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

If you're not happy with your temporaries it's very important to let your dentist know that before your permanent ones are made. Models and photos or your temporaries and adjusting either digitally or even drawing on the photos and relaying as much info to your dentist and lab will be critical in getting what you want. Often times it's as simple as rounding out some of the corners and slenderizing the outside dimensions of your temporaries to give a softer look. A good lab/ceramist should be able to look at your models/photos and make improvements which can be transferred to your temporaries so you can see what they look like. Make sure you like the changes in the temps before  proceeding to the final veneers.

Are my veneers too thick? My upper lip now seems to protrude more. (Photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

It's tough to tell from these photos if the veneers are a factor in the protruding lip. These photos seem to show your lip above the veneers. How does your lip look and feel when your lips are at rest, i.e. not smiling? Were the teeth prepared at all or were the veneers simply bonded to the unaltered front of the teeth?

I have a decayed upper front tooth. Can it be removed and fixed with orthodontics rather that doing RCT?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Usually removing a tooth that can be saved is not a good idea. If the tooth cannot be saved due to decay or some other reason then usually replacing it with an implant would be best. Removing a tooth and closing a space with orthodontics may be possible but probably not advised unless there is significant crowding in that area and removing the tooth would create some space to allow shifting the other teeth into alignment.

Why would one choose bonding over veneers for fixing a chipped tooth?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Bondings or veneers are used to treat chipped teeth. Basically the size and location of the chip will help determine the best treatment. Generally if the chip is too large (the dentist will determine that) a veneer would work better. However usually for a veneer a small amount of tooth structure must be modified to allow room for the veneer. It's tough to say which would be better in your situation with out photos. And yes, often bonding can be a quick, sometimes temporary fix, and veneers done later.

Severe swelling of upper lip with blisters after temporaries were placed (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

It's sometimes very difficult to determine exactly what is causing the swelling. I assume you've never had this happen before, i.e the swelling after a dental procedure with anesthetic. Possibilities include; trauma from the injections, some type of allergic response to the temporary material, allergic response to gloves (were they latex ?) or the impression material. The good thing is it will go away. Actually if a shine material was put on the temporaries that was probably the cause and even though it was buffed off, the allergic response had already occurred. The whitish lesions are uncomfortable for sure but they are healing and it will take several days to feel better. Your doctor can probably recommend some OTC remedies to help with the discomfort and prevent your lip from sticking to the temps
