Had 4 porcelain veneers put on my front teeth on Tuesday. One got rebonded and feels like rough cement on back of tooth. Advice?

I just had 4 porcelain veneers put on my front teeth on Tuesday. I have been watching what I eat and I also didn't floss until this morning. 1.5 hours after flossing, one popped off. I went to the dentist and my regular dentist wasn't in. They rebonded the veneer for me but didn't polish the back and it feels like I have rough cement slowly chipping off the back. will this rough cement on the back of the tooth that seems to be quickly fading be an issue?

Having some left over rough cement on the back of a veneer is not completely uncommon, but it is very easily treated.  Removing or smoothing the rough cement on the back of your tooth is something that takes about 2-5 minutes in the dental chair.  It is not something that usually needs an appointment or actually costs you money if you return to the dentist that actually did the veneer.  I would recommend revisiting your dentist to have the rough cement removed today.I hope this helps.Dr. Sarah Thompson

Hello and thank you for your question.  The back of your porcelain veneer can be smoothed. Ask your dentist to arrange a meeting with the dental technician. It is really helpful if the technician can see the result in person. I recommend following up with your Dentist about your concerns or consult with a Prosthodontist, who can discuss with you the different types of veneers to give you the best long-term results. A Prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has advanced training in restoring teeth and can create a customized treatment using the latest techniques in dental veneers.

On the day of bonding, the dentist will be careful not to put any excessive forces on the newly bonded veneers as the bond is new and will get stronger over the following 24 hours.Oftentimes, some residual cement is left and cleaned up the following week at a post operative appointment.Call your dentist and let them know that you can feel some of the cement and they will have you in to smooth and polish these areas.

Visit your dentist and they should be able to determine the cause of the roughness you are feeling. Most likely there is just some left over that needs to be removed and polished.
