Should I expect swelling still on day 2 after Radiesse?

Question

I have some swelling I assume from Radiesse in my cheeks. I had 1 syringe, she told me she put more of the syringe in my chin than cheeks. So it was not too much distributed into each cheek. I’m on day 2 after the initial injection and still feel some deep soreness, slight bruising and I feel like I look puffy? One side is definitely more bruised and hurts more And has more swelling too. Should I expect swelling still on day 2? I’m just worried this is the finished look.

Radiesse is an FDA-Approved filler that we use very frequently in our office to sculpt the contours of the face. Since we are a national center of excellence for filler reversal, we also encounter patients from other doctors' offices who wish to have Radiesse fillers removed for one reason or another. In our office, we employ a directed technique to visualize the filler material, if possible on ultrasound, and then use non-surgical methods to dissolve the filler or granuloma tissue using intralesional injections. There are many methods using a combination of enzymes, intralesional modulators of scar tissue, and Kenalog to help reduce volume and remaining filler. These techniques require meticulous attention to detail and can be performed at intervals of two to three weeks to achieve longterm effect.

It is not at all unusual to have some swelling present 2 days after a Radiesse injection.  Bruising and soreness are possible, but do not occur in all instances.  I would wait 1-2 weeks from the time of injection to get a better idea of your results.

Hello there! Filler results are best seen after at least two weeks. During those first two weeks there is a lot of swelling, bruising, and assimilating happening. It is very normal to feel sore, bruised, and puffy during this time. If after two weeks you are still experiencing this, at that time I would recommend discussing it further with your injector. Persistent selling from Radiesse can last up to a week. It swells more than most fillers and is nothing to worry about in most cases. Bruising can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. Elevating your head on 2-3 pillows and maybe some ice will help. Arnica will also help the bruising.

It is not unusual to have swelling after a dermal filler injection. Bruising can also occur.  It is not unusual for the bruising/swelling to be asymmetrical or more pronounced on one side when compared to the other.  The swelling/bruising can last for several days up to 2 weeks (sometimes more).  If you are having marked discomfort, redness, fever or chills or the symptoms are not improving you should contact your provider. Otherwise give yourself time to heal.

Swelling  after filler injections like Radiesse is to be expected and sometimes bruising occurs that exaggerated the swelling. The swelling will last a few days and in some cases a week or two.
