You don't NEED liposuction. Nobody needs it. It is a completely elective body contouring procedure for people who are at a healthy weight and have areas that are unresponsive to diet and exercise. Your BMI is 32 which puts you in the obese classification. What you do need is a program of diet and exercise so that you can get down to a healthy weight for your height and reduce your risk of getting diabetes, high blood pressure and a lot of other problems that go with being obese. You owe it to your child to set a good example an stay healthy. Good luck.
Liposuction is not covered by insurance since it is considered a cosmetic procedure. It is sometimes, and very rarely, used for people with fatty tumors that need removal in this fashion. CPT codes you listed are for abdominoplasty which is not liposuction and even then, I cannot see an insurance company paying for this unless there was a specific medically-necessary reason. I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer.

I'm afraid you misunderstand CPT codes. They apply to medical necessity, not cosmetic surgery. Those specific codes are for the surgical care of a patient with a symptomatic panniculus, not someone with a large tummy. Diet and exercise should be your focus for now, even liposuction done cosmetically is not for overweight patients.

Complete healing from liposuction sometimes follows a rockier course. With any type of procedure, the body forms scar tissue underneath in all the treated areas. One property of this scar tissue is that between about months two and three it tightens up and can form firm areas. This is the basis...
