Hello, I just had botox injections on 2016 December and 2017 May on my masseterd to help with my TMJ. I've noticed, however, that my face looks more gaunt. I am very worried that this side effect is permanent. Will my face go back to it's original shape when the botox effect wears off ? If it does not, what are my options?

Answer: Botox and Jawline Reduction Botox is never permanent. In this area, the effects last 3-9 months typically. What can be causing your face to look more gaunt is that you may be losing fat volume in this area which is quite common as we age. I would recommend that you see an experienced cosmetic surgeon to be evaluated. In this area I often will use Sculptra to help. Best of luck.

Answer: Botox jawline Botox results are never permanent. It works very well for TMJ because it relaxes the muscles that are contributing to the pain. These muscles tend be overdeveloped in people with TMJ because of the constant grinding. Once the muscles relax and decrease in size, the face tends to assume a more oval appearance. I have several patients in my practice that I treat for this very reason. If you don't like this result, you can correct it with fillers while still getting relief for your TMJ from Botox. Be sure to see an expert in facial aesthetics for the best results.
