Hello, I just had botox injections on 2016 December and 2017 May on my masseterd to help with my TMJ. I've noticed, however, that my face looks more gaunt. I am very worried that this side effect is permanent. Will my face go back to it's original shape when the botox effect wears off ? If it does not, what are my options?
Answer: Botox since Botox is not permanent the results will not be permanent however it will take some time to get your jawline to go back to the original shape. to speed up the process you can start chewing gum and that will work the masseter muscles to get larger.

Answer: Improving facial volume after Botox/Xeomin/Dysport with Fillers (Radiesse, Voluma, Bellafill), Sculptra, implants, fat Botox results resolve in 3-4 months. However, it is normal to lose volume with aging. Volume can be improved with well-placed fillers (Voluma, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra. Implants or fat are alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Face changes with Botox to Masseter muscle Hello,There is a simple explanation for most likely what you are observing. When a patient receives Botox or Dysport into the Masseter muscle to offer relief from TMJ, this very large muscle will begin to shrink in size. TMJ patients tend to have much more muscle mass in this area from the constant exercising of this chewing muscle through grinding, clenching, tension, etc. When these large muscles relax, atrophy or debulking sets in which offers symptom relief from TMJ. In our practice, we treat these muscles for aesthetic purposes to allow for a more oval shape of the face as the muscle shrinks. If you are not liking this outcome and it's confirmed this is what's happening, you may use dermal filler to offset what you are seeing while still enjoying the benefits of a relaxed masseter muscle.

Answer: Botox and Jawline Reduction Botox is never permanent. In this area, the effects last 3-9 months typically. What can be causing your face to look more gaunt is that you may be losing fat volume in this area which is quite common as we age. I would recommend that you see an experienced cosmetic surgeon to be evaluated. In this area I often will use Sculptra to help. Best of luck.

Answer: Botox jawline Botox results are never permanent. It works very well for TMJ because it relaxes the muscles that are contributing to the pain. These muscles tend be overdeveloped in people with TMJ because of the constant grinding. Once the muscles relax and decrease in size, the face tends to assume a more oval appearance. I have several patients in my practice that I treat for this very reason. If you don't like this result, you can correct it with fillers while still getting relief for your TMJ from Botox. Be sure to see an expert in facial aesthetics for the best results.
