Is the alar sail excision method used among doctors in the US? (Photo)

Sail excision procedure for hanging/hooded alars is often done for Asian noses, but I have yet to see information about it on an American's surgeon's website. Are there US doctors out there that perform this? Can alar sail excisions alone make the nostrils sides appear smaller? Picture of what excision I'm talking about is attached.

I've performed the alar sail excision technique to address the problem of a hanging ala. It's hard to know whether you'd benefit from this technique without seeing your nose though.

Alar base reduction by performing sill excision is a very common procedure particularly for Asians.  The best recommendation is to have an in person consultation with a board certified specialist who can evaluate you and assist you with achieving the goals you seek. 3-dimensional computer imaging can help you visualize what you may look like afterwards and serve as an important communication tool with your surgeon.

Alar sill excision is definitely a more discrete technique to reduce alar rim volume; this is in contrast to the later excision technique that was placed on the outside of your nose and thus the incision line more apparent.

Plastic surgeons perform a modified weir excision for the nostril/ sill base, and an intra cartilagenous incision for the flaring lower lateral cartilage.

Alar reduction is a very popular technique in California on several ethnic groups that frequently have a wide nasal base. However, over the past 35 years I prefer to keep the incisions inside the nostril to avoid the risk of an unfavorable scar outside the alar rim.
