Will getting your wisdom teeth removed after a breast augmentation increase the chance of getting a capsular contracture?

I’m getting a breast augmentation in 3 weeks but Im also due for getting my wisdom teeth removed .. I was told that as long as I wait 3 weeks apart I should be fine . I was also told by another surgeon that I need to take antibiotics before and after the extraction . Is 3 weeks enough time apart ? Do I have to take antibiotics if I have the extraction after the augmentation ?

Hi tiny.se, I understand your concern. However, there is no definite proof about wisdom tooth extraction causing capsular contrature. It is best, however, that you discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon. Sounds like good advice. I do recommend antibiotics for dental procedures involving any bleeding during a one year period after breast augmentation surgery. Speak to your surgeon to find out the protocol for when to consider each procedure and the need for prophylactic antibiotics. I am not aware of a paper that outlines a definitive protocol, so each surgeon tends to have his/her own set of guidelines on when you can have extractions in relation to the timing of implants and whether to use prophylactic antibiotics (and for how long).

Hi and thanks for your question.  Yes!  Antibiotics is a great idea before having your wisdom teeth extracted.  As well, I would suggest that you be completely healed before having your breast augmentation.  Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question - this is still a debated topic.  There is no hard science to make a definitive recommendation.  It is best to talk to your surgeon about the wisdom teeth extraction timing as well as your surgeon's recommendations for antibiotics.
