Necrosis and bruising 5 days post tummy tuck scar revision? (Photo)

Question

6 months post op tummy tuck and 5 days post scar revision to lower original scar.Immediate pain and bleeding from incision site.I knew this wasn't normal and peeled off steri-strips and hyper fix tape MORTIFIED to find this.How long will it take for skin to fully declare itself of necrosis?Will the area get bigger than this?The surrounding area is tender and painful.What are my options and the healing time?I am so scared,worried and disappointed,so much I didn't sleep a wink last night.Please help.

Hello You do have a small area of necrosis. But you will be all right. Normally those areas get smaller instead of larger, the problem is limited and superficial, so nothing else will happen.Nothing more serious is coming, your life or health is not at jeopardy, if you take good care of it, the scar will peel, and then the little open wound will be very easy to clean and in no time you will see the area shrinking and finally closing.At the end will be half size scar, and probably not even the need to do revision.Do not panic, you will still have your beautiful result.Dra. I understand your disappointment
but you should not worry too much. It may take a week or two for the area to fully
demarcate, and the resulting defect may be smaller that you anticipate. In any
case, it should be fairly easy to fix at the appropriate time. In the meanwhile
I think you should be on antibiotics to prevent infection, which could exacerbate
the problem. Best of luck!

You should follow up with your surgeon for proper treatment of your skin necrosis, it doent look like a big area of necrosis so it will be getting better as you receive the right treatment, this complications usually has a good prognosis if your surgeon begins treatment immediately. Good luck!

Thank your for the photos and your questions though a full examination is really needed as that area may only be a superficial area of vascular compromise and not deeper in which case it should heal quickly.  I would obviously follow up with my surgeon so he can start you on appropriate wound care.Dr. corbin
