My very first experience with Juvederm filler. I went to have strictly my lips done. However, my injector insisted that I also needed to have filler around my labial commisures as well. For symmetry or something along those lines. Anyway, the filler ended up giving me jowles, and felt like small hard balls under my skin. I ended up having the filler dissolved about 48 hours ago. The filler has somewhat dissolved, leaving stretch mark lines and dark discoloration around my mouth. Is this normal?

Hello Dpie.  In your case, we would see no reason to inject filler at the corners of the mouth, other than that your injector may have wanted to sell you additional syringes.  The way in which the filler was placed also appear unusual, unless it is just swelling that we are looking at in the photos.  You are a perfect candidate for lip filler injections only and it would have been fine to end with just that area.  Best of luck.  Celibre Medical, Torrance Juvederm experts.

If you had swelling, which can be asymmetrical this can lasts 1-2 weeks after lip injections. Final results are seen around this time. Bruising after you had it dissolved may have caused the dark pigmentation. I recommend seeing an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

As you can see, the recommendations are not always appropriate.Each patient, each lip is different and using injection templates are very inappropriate. Never assume your injector knows more about facial aesthetics, proportions and spatial relationship than you. Remember, the recommendations are exactly what they are, the opinions of others. If they are very different than yours ask the questions: why?, what if the recommendations were wrong?. Ask until you understand or you feel comfortable with suggestions. Good luck!

It’s absolutely normal and usually preferable to inject some filler around the lips and in the corners of the mouth. It helps to balance the fuller lips and make results look much more natural. It’s not clear from your photos what the timing is. If you dissolved the filler within two weeks of the initial injection it may still have been significantly swollen.   It’s  also normal to be able to feel some filler within the skin, as long as it is not visible as bumps. But again, it takes 2 weeks to see the final results.   There will be no permanent stretch marks from filler or filler removal. Any dark areas can be more filler or the after effecs of bruising. I would wait 2 weeks and return if you still see skin changes.

A small amount of lip filler can help camouflage corners of the mouth that that appear to be turned downward. In your case I agree, I think the filler was overdone and it was a good idea to dissolve it. It can take up to a couple weeks for your outcome to stabilize.
