What would happen if I take Ibuprofen after surgery?

You should address these specific questions to your surgeon.  The reason to avoid ibuprofen after surgery is the same as for aspirin.  It can cause bleeding during or after surgery.  Fortunately, it sounds like it did no harm in your case, but make sure you speak to your surgeon about any medications you take.

please discuss this with your PS before changing any medications.Ibuprofen can increase your risk of bleeding, although it is a better pain medication than tylenol.Nausea control is another thing that can be dealt with.best of luck!Dr Schwartz

Thank you for your question.  I would certainly stop with your oxycodone if its giving you that degree of side effect.  If you were in significant pain I would recommend speaking to your plastic surgeon to change your prescription pain medication, but if you are tolerating over the counter medications, and I recommend you using what works best for you. I typically tell patients to take the medication that works best for them for muscle soreness.

Ibuprofen is a blood thinner, similar to aspirin.  I recommend my patients do not take any blood thinners 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery.  Talk with your surgeon before taking anything else.  ac

It depends how long since your surgery. Ibuprofen is a platelet inhibitor which means that it can "thin the blood" or increase risk of post -operative bleeding. It is a great pain reliever though and I am not surprised that it worked well. I generally allow my patients to start ibuprofen on day 5 but I suggest calling your plastic surgeon becaus only he/she knows what was actually done in surgery and is therefore the best person to make this decision
