Excess skin after ptosis repair? 2 weeks post-op. (photo)

Question

I had a ptosis on my left eye 2 weeks ago. The swelling and the redness are mostly gone now, but my eyelids don't look the same. There seems to be some "excess skin" on my left eyelid now. Is it because it's still recovering or did the surgery fail?

The height of the eyelids look great.  You are now in frontalis spasm of the right brow.  This is making the lid platform, or the place where you put your makeup, look larger than the left.  The left brow is low, or not activated and leaves the platform almost ablated.  You should wait some time for the brow to neuro-adapt, and if it does not, you have several options.  One is a brow lift on the left side, or an addition of a toxin to the right brow to help you relax the brow.  I would wait around 6 months for your brain to adjust.  Good Luck

However, it is possible that you would benefit from a little less skin in the left upper eyelid to show a bit more eyelid platform.  The right eye is actually the abnormal one.  It is now more ptotic than the left side and there is a compensatory right brow elevation. If this persists, the right upper eyelid ptosis should be corrected.  I recommend that the crease be lowered on this side to create a more full upper eyelid fold to better match the left side.  The right upper eyelid ptosis surgery and the revisional blepharoplasty on the left side can be all done at the same time.  Generally, it will be much easier to tell what your long term result will be at 2 months after surgery rather than 2 weeks.

Thank you for your question and your photos. I don't think you have extra skin. The left upper lid is slightly higher than the right so the lid platform on the left is hidden. Thus may relax with time. You are still early on in the healing phase. I would follow up with your surgeon and observe for the time being.
