Air bubbles under skin after lipo - is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Air can be introduced trapped under the skin is part of an operation. This is called subcutaneous emphysema and is self-limited.

You can have edema and swelling post treatment including emphysema (air under the skin).  Compression garments can help.  If there is still residual feeling in 2 weeks, ultrasound or other like devices can help increase the healing.  Best, Dr. Emer.

It is not uncommon to have "Crepitus" - the popping and crunching sensation after lipo. It is caused by air within your subcutaneous tissues. crepitus is usually harmless and will resolve on its own with time. However...In some cases, crepitus occurs with a severe infection or punctured lung or abdominal visera. This crepitus is usually associated with several pain, fever, chills, shortness of breath, racing heart, and a continuously worsening condition. Since you were able to type this question and had no other complaints...I doubt your crepitus is of any concern. Subcutaneous emphysema is not uncommon after the procedures you have had.  Wearing your compression garments will help it resolve more quickly.  It is not dangerous in and of itself.
