Botox and flaxseed oil?

Question

I am taking flaxseed oil regularly because I have dry eyes, can I continue to take it after having Botox for frown lines? Is there a contraindication?

There is no contraindication to taking flaxseed oil after Botox. It should be fine to continue taking it before and after your Botox treatment. I hope this helps.

Hello, and thank you very much for the question. In general, there are no contraindications associated with flaxseed oil and Botox treatment. The flaxseed oil may have a small blood thinning effect; this can increase the likelihood of bruising following the injections. Botox is an injection that affects the muscles. Flaxseed oil is used for its omega-fatty acid benefits. It also has a mild blood thinning effect. Together they make you slightly more likely to bruise after an injection. It's always a good idea to check for interactions between medications, supplements, and new treatments. Bruising may be inconvenient, but it's not dangerous. There is no reported contraindication of getting your Botox injections while taking flaxseed oil.

The blood thinning effects of flaxseed oil are nominal at best when it comes to Botox treatments. On a side note, I am not sure the flaxseed oil you are taking is any better for your dry eye. Best to follow up with a board certified ophthalmologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Flaxseed contains ALA which is converted by your body to omega 3 fatty acids.  These fatty acids have a mild blood thinning effect so there could be a slightly increased chance of getting a bruise.  In my opinion, you can continue the flaxseed because this is not a major concern. Regards,Dr. Ort

Flaxseed oil will do nothing to Botox as it it do nothing for dry eyes. I strongly recommend you consult an ophthalmologist for your dry eyes to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.
