Blood work, two weeks to go! Is the game over for BR?

Question

Well my blood work came back a little off. By blood glucose was 69 and my iron levels was 12.6. Both of those are borderline low. Is the game over for BR? I'm otherwise healthy no issues.

Thank you for your question.  Surgery is an involved procedure on the body.  Your team should be in agreement on the goals and risks of surgery.  Part of this is the acceptable lab results.  Sometimes it is just a minor varient and not to worry, other times one's health may need to be tuned up before proceeding.  You should discuss this with your team (you, surgeon, and primary care doctor).

Your plastic surgeon is in the best position to review your results and determine your suitability for surgery as they have an overall picture of your medical history and current health status.  Generally speaking these issues would not preclude you from surgery.

It is best for you to review your blood work with your surgeon. It does not sound like from the lab results that this would cause a cancellation.

Blood work before surgery is often used in conjunction with a physical examination to assess the overall safety of having the operation.  These results will need to be discussed with your physician, who has a better understanding of you health, to assess your overall risk.

Breast Reduction is elective surgery so you need to be in excellent health and get cleared by your primary care physician pre-operatively.  Your glucose is low but perhaps you had the blood work drawn at a time of day when you hadn't eaten.  It is not uncommon for women to have a low iron levels.   Your first step is to contact your primary care physician and discuss the results.  At that time you can make a plan  to assess the cause of your low counts.    Your surgery may have to be delayed, but likely it  can proceed after a short course of appropriate therapy and repeat blood tests.  Good Luck!
