If an occasional bump or hit on my nose happens, will it make it bigger? I already have a natural but small dorsal hump on my nose and I'm worried that a small hit will cause it to get even larger. And if it just just swollen or red, how long will it take for it to heal, or will it actually heal at all? Also, will pressing, pinching, or squeezing the bump make it bigger too? Thanks.
Answer: Treatment for a nasal dorsal hump after trauma Trauma to the nose can cause a displaced, or a non-displaced nasal fracture. In addition, the upper lateral cartilages could be dislocated off of the nasal bones. Fracturing of the nose can also create a fracture of the nasal septum, also known as a deviated septum. A physical examination and x-rays can determine whether a fracture is present. Repetitive minor traumas to the nose create a calcium deposit/ callus formation along the bridge line which equates to making the dorsal hump larger. A rhinoplasty procedure can accomplish shaving down the dorsal hump which is usually composed of both bone and cartilage. For many examples, please see the link and video below

Answer: Will a small hit or bump make your nose bigger or create a dorsal hump? Any trauma can change the shape of your nose by causing swelling but generally will subside quickly. It takes a significant amount of force to fracture an displace nasal bones. Most basic trauma will subside in 3-5 days.

Answer: Dorsal hump An occasional bump will not make your nose bigger. You may be swollen right after the injury but after the swelling resolves you should not have a larger bump unless the bones were broken. How would you know if the bones were broken? An x-ray or examination in person would give you the answer you seek.

Answer: Can a bump get larger It takes a good deal of force on the nose to cause a disruption of the cartilaginous or bony framework. But this will not cause a growth of a hump. There may be a dislocated piece of bone that gets visibly elevated. More often than not, what you get from trauma is depression of a side wall or a crooked nose and maybe a deviated septum.
