Bulge over scar 9 months after drainless tummy tuck (Photo)

Question

I had a drainless tummy tuck 9 months ago. I have a large bulge on my left side that is not a swollen area. I know it takes up to a year for everything to settle but this is not budging. I have 2 pea sized lumps on my scar further along that you can’t see but can definitely feel. The surgeon said that the lumps weere my body rejecting the sutures. He said the lump was where he had pulled it tight and would lipo that area at a future time. Does this look like that?

I agree with your surgeon, the upper abdominal skin is thicker than what is below, so that's why it can "bulge" over the top of the incision. Liposuction is a nice tool to improve it.

The bulge could either be from a fluid collection, or could be from a little extra skin and fat. Sometimes, even though we pull the skin as tight as possible, the skin can stretch some after surgery. In addition, it is unsafe to cut too much of the fat from the upper flap at the time of surgery. You would likely benefit from a scar revision to help with your scar widening, and some of that fat could be debulked at that time. I would discuss this with your surgeon as most plastic surgeons will have a revision policy in place.
