Bad keloids after BA is correction possible? (Photos)

Question

I had my Brest augmentation in March 2024. I would like to know if there is a way for me to correct it. They are painful, unsightly, and very itchy at times. If there is something that I can do to correct this, what is the procedure called? What type of physician do I see?

Is probably best to return to your plastic surgeon for guidance.  There are a number of different things to try, including steroid injection, silicone sheeting, laser, and others.  It often takes many steps to get some kind of acceptable improvement.

There are multiple modalities available to treat scars such as your own. The reason for many options is that none are perfect and none can guarantee improvement. Discuss options with your surgeon. He or she may be able to lay out a flexible plan of treatment with changing options depending on the response.

It looks like you are developing hypertrophic scars. Please see your surgeon to discuss treatments that can reduce their appearance and ease itchiness. Options can include steroid injection, topical treatments and surgery.

Hi, you should talk to your surgeon about fixing the scars.  You may want to start with a steroid injection, but if that doesn't work, the having your surgeon remove the scars and inject steroid could be helpful.  After the scar revision, pressure therapy with silicone tape may also be beneficial.  If you communicate your concerns with your surgeon, he/she should be able to help you.  Best of luck!

Dear 3qtkids,

for scars, I close all of my incisions in 5 layers and do not use absorbable sutures because they cause inflammation and worse scarring. I tape all of my incisions in the office visits once a week for six weeks after surgery to improve the appearance. After taping, I start my patients on a scar gel therapy for 3 months that they have to put on their incisions twice daily.
You should discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon as different surgeons have different approaches in scar management.

Those scars look like hypertrophic scar...a little different thyan keloid but treatment is about the same.

Steroid injections might help flatten them.  Removing them surgically, and using elastic silicone gel tape may help them heal better next time.

Treatment of this type of scars usually starts with injections of corticosteroids and long term pressure application in the forms of scar tapes. Additional plan of treatment may be developed  if necessary . This is an issue to be discussed with your surgeon. Good luck.

Dear Marylander,
   Thanks for posting your pictures and sorry for your problem. Your problem is not Keloid, which is like a tumor and the scar grows beyond the borders of the incisions, but rather hypertrophic scar, which is thick scar. As far as corrective procedures, you have 2 options: 1.  Injection with Kenalog (steroid) into the scar. It will shrink the scar and help with the Pruritus (Itching). 2. Scar revision - cutting out the old scar, injecting the wounds with Kenalog and wound closure with continuous internal dissolving sutures.
   Talk to your plastic surgeon about these option and I am sure that he/she will be able to help you to improve on your problem.
