I would suggest a combination Hidef approach that includes micro needling, PRP, Melarase Brightening Kit, and fractional laser with Yag. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianLos Angeles
The chemicals used in self-tanners can act as photo-sensitizers, which helps the skin to create more melanin. Age spots can be improved with a combination approach of lasers (Fraxel, tattoo laser) and microneedling/prp. see an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
Hi Julsmall!Thank you for your question! The active ingredient in self tanners is DHA. When it is applied, it reacts with the dead skin cells to temporarily darken the skin. When applied over age spots, it will cause the age spots to appear darker. This is temporary and will only last as long as the fake tan. It won't create new spots. However, if you are using a self tanner and not using spf, you will not only worsen the age spots you have, but also create new ones. UVA rays are the ones that create age spots and they're always out. Sunny days, cloudy days, summer and winter so always protect yourself from the rays!
