Feb 2021 I had upper bleph. I had a scar that extended 1 & 1/2 inches past eyelid on one side where incision separated. Also, too much skin was left resulting in sagging. Had revision Dec 2021. Incisions were too high with an indent. Instead of lasering the original scar he decided to re-suture. Now I also have scars. What are my options to correct these issues? Thank you in advance for any help. This wasn't the wonderful experience I had hoped and saved for.
Answer: Upper eyelid scar revision Thank you for your question. This can be tricky to correct, but there is hope. The skin here is very thin, and over correction can result in inability to fully close the eye. If there is thickening of scar tissue, injecting a small amount of a medication called 5-fluorouracil can help, but it may require multiple treatments. Laser resurfacing can also help soften scarring and tighten the eyelid skin. I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best. -Dr. P

Answer: Scar laser treatment combined with melarase creams to help reduce appearance of scars Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars. Answer: 6 months post revision eyelid surgery: what if anything can be done about the scars? Hello @rdmspirit, thank you for your question and for showing your pictures. I understand your concern about the results. You might want to consider upper blepharoplasty to fix the heavy eye. You can see that you have a lot of skin around the eye. Revision allows the specialist to reconstruct the tissue and reorganize it so that the eyes will be symmetrical and you can see improvements. A revision blefaroplasty is a delicate procedure that requires careful planning in order to provide effective results, especially if two prior procedures have been performed. For more information and recommendations, it is prudent to consult with one or several board certified plastic surgeons. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
