I am getting subpectoral with an inframammory incision with mentor implants. I am 5'5 and 115 lbs with a 32 a cup. During my consult I was told I have dense breasts and good skin so I can have the bigger size. I'd like to have a full C cup. I would like them to have a nice drop. Also, I like the look of the side boob. I am an esthetician so I do a lot of waxing and am wondering how much time I will need to take off of work. Is 8 days enough? What size do you think would fit me best?

Answer: I am torn between 350 CC and 400 CC with Mentor silicone implants and moderate plus and high profile. Thank you for the question and pictures. I think that you are starting at a good place and should have a very nice outcome with breast augmentation surgery. There is no accurate/reliable/predictable correlation between size/profile breast implant utilized and cup size achieved. Ultimately, careful communication of your goals (in my practice I prefer the use of goal pictures, direct examination/communication in front of a full-length mirror, and computer imaging) will be critical. Given that your surgery is coming up soon, I would suggest that you schedule additional time to spend with your plastic surgeon communicating your goals, preferably prior to the date of surgery. Be careful, that the implant size that you have selected won't leave you with the most common regret: “I wish I was bigger”. Generally speaking, the best online advice I can give to ladies who are considering breast augmentation surgery ( regarding breast implant size/profile selection) is: 1. Concentrate on choosing your plastic surgeon carefully. Concentrate on appropriate training, certification, and the ability of the plastic surgeon to achieve the results you are looking for. Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work. 2. Have a full discussion and communication regarding your desired goals with your plastic surgeon. This communication will be critical in determining breast implant size/type/profile will most likely help achieve your goals. In my practice, the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) is very helpful. I have found that the use of words such as “natural” or "full C cup” or "nice drop" etc means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful. Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on him who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. Again, the use of computer imaging has been very helpful during the communication process, in our practice. 3. Once you feel you have communicated your goals clearly, allow your plastic surgeon to use his/her years of experience/judgment to choose the breast implant size/profile that will best meet your goals. Again, in my practice, this decision is usually made during surgery, after the use of temporary intraoperative sizers. I hope this (and the attached link, dedicated to breast augmentation surgery concerns) helps. Best wishes.

Answer: Questions of Implant Size and Projection Questions of size and profile sometimes cannot be decided preoperatively. I routinely have the option for multiple sizes and projections for each augmentation I perform. Patients use sizers in the office while clothed to see what they will look like going out to dinner, heading out for the day, and just living their lives. I ask my patients to trust me to provide them the best result I can provide them in the OR using temporary sizers. Specifically related to your photos, your seem to have more fullness medially in your left breast/chest secondary to more prominent ribs along your sternum. The left breast actually appears larger as well. In my practice, I will tell patients in this situation that they may in fact have different volumes and projections. For instance, your could be a 400 cc high profile on the right and a 350 cc moderate plus profile on the left. Talk to your PS about these asymmetries and get multiple opinions from experienced board certified surgeons. Best of Luck .
