What would the Umbilical Float Abdominoplasty provide that mini tummy tuck would not. Main problem is abdominal muscles not fat.

An umbilical float procedure does not re-position the belly button lower.  It is a maneuver to allow access to the upper abdomen (for fascial tightening) via a lower abdominal incision.  You can then position the belly button at/above/below its original position, depending on patient's needs.

Umbilical float repositions your belly button lower, most patients find it looks unnatural.  A mini tummy tuck is limited to addressing only the lower abdomen.  There are ways of tightening the entire length of the muscles via a mini but it's not usually done as it's difficult to do 

Hello JW.The main advantage of the float technique is to give access to the upper abdominal muscles. Once the belly button has been "floated" by detaching it from the abdominal wall, then the surgeon can expose and repair any weakness in the lower and upper muscles. With the mini tummy tuck, the belly button is not detached and there is no access to the upper tummy to no muscle work is preformed above the belly button. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)

An umbilical float is offered to patients who undergo a mini-tummy tuck that also have some laxity above the umbilicus and whose umbilicus is high to begin with. I prefer a full tummy tuck with cases of loose skin in the upper abdomen.
